We visited this hotel two years ago and returned again recently, and our positive impressions from the first visit were only strengthened second time around. There are a lot of reasons why Killashee House Hotel & Spa is high on our list of favourite hotels in Ireland. Due to the location, a mere twenty minutes from Dublin (if you are not too unlucky with the traffic), it is the ideal base for business or pleasure on Ireland’s east coast. Then you also have the main road heading south just five minutes away, which means you can be in Cork or Limerick in a couple of hours.
Killashee House itself is a former boarding school and before that it was a stately manor, and now it is one of Ireland’s most luxurious hotels.
After that treatment and time dreaming in the relaxation room, we went off for a dry flotation experience. This treatment promises that twenty minutes will give the benefits of several hours sleep – how clever in our time-poor stressed-out world!
The next morning after breakfast I enjoyed an Elemis Total Brilliance facial which as exceptional relaxing, and left me feeling totally revived and refreshed. The full range of treatments at the Villa Spa with its eighteen individual therapy rooms makes it one of the most extensive hotel spas in the country.
Of course there are many other choices including Rump of Lamb; Saddle of Rabbit;
Baked Monkfish and a couple of imaginative vegetarian options. Starters included a zingy Rare Peppered & Cajun Beef salad, and fresh steamed Asparagus with Poached Egg and Hollandaise Sauce. Desserts included a wonderful Grand Marnier Souffle Glace with citrus Sauce and Orange confit; and a traditional Warm Apple Tarte Alsacienne with home made ice-cream.
Our meal was partnered by some exceptional wines suggested by Sommelier Martin Stoppa. Martin travelled around the world from his home in Poland to his new home in Killashee House Hotel. He worked on 5star cruise liners where he was exposed to legendary chef Michel Roux and he spent some time on the QE2. His knowledge of wines is extensive, and he brings an exceptional flair to the pairing of the great dishes at Turners with unusual wines. We enjoyed a glass of Chateau Jolys Jurancon Sec with is made with the rare Gros Manseng grape – a lovely fresh tasting wine similar to a good Sauvignon Blanc. For our red meat Martin suggested a biodynamic wine from the Languedoc, a Cotes du Roussillon from Domaine Ferrer Ribiere. This was a wine with a great meaty nose and rich berry fruit and perfect with red meats and game. It was a real joy to discover these wines wish were totally new to us and partnered so well with our dinner. It was a gastronomic treat altogether!
We will return to Killashee House Hotel & Villa Spa, it is a lovely property with much to recommend it.

ACCOMMODATION AT KILLASHEE HOUSE HOTEL
Elegantly furnished, our room was large and tastefully appointed. We had spectacular views over rolling hills and acres of green fields. Having driven up the sweeping driveway the striking Victorian building is impressive and the elegance of the interior almost transports you to a different era. Yet all modern comforts are here too. We had complementary broadband access, TV and DVD player, very snug robes, two large comfortable beds, a working desk area, and best of all large windows that opened on to the landscaped grounds. The ambiance was both gracious and spacious, and we were very comfortable there.THE VILLA SPA
The Villa Spa is excellent, and we spent most of the time during our stay enjoying some of their treatments. On the afternoon of our arrival, we went for a Razul, and this is just a wonderfully fun and relaxing treatment for couples or, as in our case, for mother and daughter. The Razul chamber itself is very traditional and decorated with Moroccan fixtures and fittings including lamp-shades and mirrors and seating. It was like a visit to Marrakech! A later addition to the hotel, the Villa Spa is incredibly popular with guests and members alike, and besides the numerous treatments, the relaxation room is design delight!After that treatment and time dreaming in the relaxation room, we went off for a dry flotation experience. TURNERS RESTAURANT
Dinner at Turners Restaurant was a fine feast in a beautifully appointed dining room. We had a table by the bay window looking out over the gardens. Service was impeccable, and the menu was delightful. Always loving both good steaks and tasty fresh fish, we could not resist the Killashee Special – this is a beef and seafood platter for two people. It was delicious, we had succulent beef medallion, pan fried seabass and a couple of scallops and prawns. It was all served to us from a large silver platter, complete with creamy potatoes and fresh vegetables on the side. This was a particularly special treat, and it would be worth travelling to Killashee House Hotel just to have this dish for dinner alone!Of course there are many other choices including Rump of Lamb; Saddle of Rabbit;
